Silene acaulis – Uinta Mountains


Silene acaulis, Uinta Mountain, Utah form of the Moss Campion forms a dense mat of tiny leaves with occasional pink flowers.  It is much more reluctant to flower than our species offering.  Grow in sun to part shade in gritty, sharply drained soil with moderate water.  Nice in a trough or rambling among rocks in the scree or alpine garden.  Hardy to –30 degrees F. Caryophyllaceae
