Pulsatilla vulgaris ‘Papageno’ is a variable seed strain with flowers in a variety of colors from white to red to dark purple. Many have interesting fringed petals. Seasonal interest is extended by ornamental seed heads above a a mound of finely dissected fernlike foliage. 12”x12”. Deciduous. Grow in full to part sun in well drained soil. It has a large taproot which makes it fairly drought tolerant but difficult to transplant. In all other ways, it is an easy to grow and long lived perennial that looks great in rock gardens, scree and raised beds. Found in meadows and grassy areas in the European Alps.
