Penstemon rupicola

DSC 0066

Penstemon rupicola, the cliff penstemon, is one of our most attractive native wildflowers.  It forms very attractive mat-forming penstemon with gray-green foliage and vivid pink flowers on short stems in summer.  It can be grown in sun or part sun in poor, very well-drained soil with low water.  It is found on rocky outcroppings in the Siskiyou Mountains in Northern California and on both sides of the Cascades from Oregon into Southern Washington.  Hardy to -20 degrees F. Scrophulariaceae
