Penstemon cardwellii


Penstemon cardwellii, Cardwell’s Penstemon, is an attractive evergreen shrub 24-36” x 24” with mid-green foliage and purple, tubular flowers in late spring.   Grow in sun to part shade in very well-drained soil with low to moderate water.     Hardy to -10 degrees F. Found in open forests and rocky slopes at mid to high elevations in the Oregon Coast Range and Cascades into Washington. This is a shrubby penstemon in the subgenus Dasanthera.
