Lilium davidii 'Berry Red'
Lilium davidii 'Berry Red' is a stoloniferous lily that spreads by underground and multiple arching stems to 6 ft each with up to 40 spotted, dark red-orange, turk’s cap flowers with dark orange anthers. Grow in sun to part shade in humus rich, well drained soil with moderate water. Native to China. Hardy to -40 degrees F.
This plant comes from the collection of Rae Berry of the now closed Berry Botanical Garden. We have given it the cultivar name 'Berry Red' in her honor. It came to us labeled as Lilium davidii var willmottiae however it has hairy leaves, a feature not found in var willmottiae, and we now call it simply Lilium davidii. It has a particularly fine dark red flower color.
