Dichelstemma ida-maia or firecracker flower is a spring flowering perennial that produces long trailing stems with clusters of dark red, yellow-green tipped, tubular flowers in early summer. 18-24” tall. Grow in sun to part sun in well drained soil with a dry summer rest. Hardy to -20 degrees F. This Western wildflower is found near the coast from Northern California through the Siskiyou mountains where it receives a moist winter and dry summer. It dies back after flowering and remains dormant until the rainy season.
