Dianthus erinaceous


Dianthus erinaceous has the descriptive common name of Hedgehog Pink. The botanical name erinaceous means hedgehog and both common and botanical name refer to its prickly foliage. It forms a loose spiny gray green cushion and has small pink flowers on short stems in summer. Given the right conditions in the open garden it can grow to form creeping hummocks several feet across in many years. Grow in sun in gritty well-drained soil with low water. Native of Turkey and hardy to -20 degree F. Caryophyllaceae
