Himalayan Huckleberry


This evergreen shrub  in found in forests in the Eastern Himalayas and features large oval, blue-green leaves, paler beneath and pinkish urn-shaped flowers in spring & edible, blue-black berries in summer. In our Pacific NW climate it grows to about 1 x 2' or a bit more but can reach 3' or more in its native habitat.  Grow in sun to part shade in fertile, moist soil.   Hardy to 0 degrees F. Mat-forming, evergreen shrub to 6” with bell-shaped pink flowers in spring, edible red berries.  Part to full sun, moist, humus rich soil.  Eastern US  Hardy to –40 degrees F. Ericaceae

European Blueberry


Creeping, deciduous shrub with small, glossy green leaves and pink urn-shaped flowers in summer followed by tasty blue-black berries.  12" high by indefinate.  Grow in sun to part shade in acidic, moist soil.  Widespread distribution in North American and Eurasia native.  In our area it is found from British Columbia southward to Central Oregon east of the Cascades.  Hardy to -20 degrees F.
