Summer blooming gentian with low, branching stems and intensely blue flowers with black on outside.  6 - 8" high.  Grow in sun to part shade in humus-rich, well-drained, moist soil. Hardy to 0 degrees F.  Species is native to the grasslands of W. Asia.  Gentianaceae

From wet mountain meadows of the Western states, this gentian forms low growing plant tufts up to 6 " high and produces pale blue flowers on decumbent stems in summer.  Grow in sun to part shade in humus-rich, well-drained, moist soil. Hardy to 0 degrees F.  Western US mountains meadows. Gentianaceae

Mid-green linear leaves on stems to 1' tall with clusters of dark blue, funnel-shaped flowers in summer.  The flowers open fully when in full sun  Site in morning sun with afternoon shade in warm weather climates.  Needs humus-rich, very well-drained soil, regular water. Hardy to -20 degrees F.   Gentianaceae

 

Grown from seed collected in NW Colorado. The species is found in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah and the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and So. Wyoming where it is found in mountain meadows and mixed woodlands at alpine and sub-alpine elevations.

Summer Bloomer

Summer blooming gentian with upright stems and that produce clusters of intensely blue flowers.  6 - 8" high.  Grow in sun to part shade in humus-rich, well-drained, moist soil. We have not been able to verify this species name, hence the quotes.  Gentianaceae

A late summer blooming gentian to1-2' tall with clusters of wine red to purple, spotted flowers.  Grow in cool sun to partial shade in moderately fertile, very well-drained soil with regular water. Hardy to -20 degrees F.   Gentianaceae

 

Grown from seed collected in Hovden, Norway. The species is found in the Alps and mountains of Norway where it is grows in meadows and thickets.

Summer blooming gentian with low, branching stems and bright blue, bell-shaped flowers.  8"high by 12" wide.  Grow in sun to part shade in humus-rich, well-drained, moist soil. Zones 6-8.  Species is native to the Caucasus.  Gentianaceae

A larger plant than most of the rest, this gentian has dark green leaves with whitish to cream colored flower clusters in late summer. 24 ” x 18” Sun to part shade, well-drained soil.  Hardy to -10 degrees F  Roadsides and forest margins in the Himalayas.   Gentianaceae

This eastern U.S. native gentian has shiny, dark green leaves and clusters of green-white to purple striped flowers in fall.  Variable height from 6" to 24".  Grow in partial shade in well-drained soil.  Native to open woods, meadows and slopes from Pennsylvania southward.  Hardy to -10 degrees F. Gentianaceae
